June is Pride Month, which makes it a great time to celebrate queer artists and musicians, and jam out to your sapphic feelings. I've curated a 6-hour sapphic playlist full of chill vibes with WLW themes. Much of the inspiration for this playlist came from the bedroom pop sounds of the Heartstopper soundtrack, my own favorite indie and alt artists, and of course the most sapphic lyrics I've ever heard. The playlist title "Sapphic Propaganda" was inspired by a cute tongue-in-cheek Facebook group called "this is sapphic propaganda if I ever saw it."
The playlist can be found on Tidal, Spotify, and YouTube. While the full playlist is over six hours long, I've highlighted a few top picks below.
Silk Chiffon by Muna (feat. Phoebe Bridgers) This upbeat indie pop track describes the blissful experience of queer joy in a relationship. "She's so soft like silk chiffon."
Make Out by The Greeting Committee You might be able to tell by how many times this indie rock band from KC is featured in this playlist alone, they hold a special place in my heart. This song is a fun one, highlighting the excitement in an early relationship. "She's eating pickles from a jar, I think I love her."
girls by girl in red I'm not sure you can legally make a sapphic playlist without including girl in red, and "girls" is a quintessential song. "They're so pretty, it hurts. I'm not talking 'bout boys, I'm talking 'bout girls."
Edge of the Earth by The Beaches Indie rock is my jam, and the line "She's a magnet, pullin' me under the sheets." is just too sexy!
Sappho by Frankie Cosmos A charming nod to Sappho herself, the Greek poet from the isle of Lesbos from which the words "sapphic" and "lesbian" derived. "Is that Sappho you're readin'?"
Dream Girl by Baby Queen You know that moment when you meet the girl of your dreams and then you realize she has a boyfriend? Baby Queen does. "Does he ever tell you that you are his dream girl? Because you're a dream girl."
Kissing Lessons by Lucy Dacus A candid coming-of-age story about close friends planning for future relationships."I wonder if she thinks of me as her first kiss."
Valentine by Snail Mail The indie rock project Snail Mail is heavily featured in this playlist, as another personal favorite of mine. This heartbreaking break-up song is perfect for belting. "Why'd you wanna erase me, darling valentine?"
You Might Not Like Her by Maddie Zahm This song is a gut-wrenching message to singer Maddie's younger self, explaining what has changed since her religious upbringing. "Someday, you'll kiss a girl and you'll panic."
For What It's Worth by Alanna Matty I found Alanna Matty through her Twitch live streams and was drawn in by her emotional songs. In this, she explores honest feelings during the end of a queer relationship. Sometimes breakups happen even when you still care for each other. "For what it's worth, I think you're really pretty."
If you like any of the songs you've seen on the list, you'll definitely enjoy the rest of the playlist. Save it on Tidal, Spotify, or YouTube. What songs would you add to a sapphic playlist?
